Jamal Musiala has been described as ‘a loss to England’ as the former Three Lions youth star shone for Germany in the Nations League.

The Bayern Munich star was labelled ‘the best player on the pitch’ as he pulled the strings for Germany against a country he could have played for.

Born in Stuttgart, Musiala moved to England as a seven year old, where he played academy football with Southampton and Chelsea.

He also turned out for the English national team in a number of different age groups before leaving Stamford Bridge for Munich in 2019.

After breaking into Bayern’s first team, the 19-year-old had to pick which senior team he would opt for, and chose Germany last summer after persuasion from former manager Jogi Lowe.

However, England boss Gareth Southgate may regret not making more of an effort as a number of talkSPORT pundits reacted to a stunning display against the Three Lions.

Commentator Jim Proudfoot said: “He’s a loss to England there’s no doubt about that.

“You’d love to see him in an England shirt wouldn’t you? He is a class apart, and still only 19, think what a bright future he’s got ahead of him.”

Former West Ham striker Dean Ashton was in agreement, saying: “He’s been fantastic, he’s picked up such intelligent positions and made it really difficult for Kalvin Phillips and for [Jude] Bellingham since he’s come on.

“Picking up those positions that are really hard to mark, to know whether to come out of your own position to pick him up, he’s caused England a few problems.”

Adrian Durham went even further in his praise though.

“The best player on the pitch is Musiala,” he said. “Stuart Pearce was saying on talkSPORT earlier this week that once you choose a team at junior level that’s got to be it and he even included [former Ireland youth team player] Declan Rice in that.

“If only we could say that about Jamal Musiala.”
