Belgium players, including Kevin De Bruyne, were booed off by their own fans despite qualifying for the Euro 2024 knockout stage.

The Red Devils sealed a 0-0 draw against Ukraine in their final Group E clash to finish to reach the last 16.

Despite this, it sees them finish second in the group behind Romania having scored less goals than them, with all four sides ending up on four points.

Although they have qualified out the group and now face France in the last 16, it’s clear that their fans were unimpressed with their efforts.

Following the full-time whistle against Ukraine in Stuttgart, De Bruyne led his teammates towards the fans to applaud their support.

However, loud boos rang out and it appeared as though their captain changed his mind and told the Belgium players to head off the pitch.

It has also been reported that De Bruyne’s name was booed when it was announced that he was the Player of the Match.

Belgium were beaten 1-0 by Slovakia in their opening match in which Romelu Lukaku was denied a late equaliser due to a controversial handball from Lois Openda in the build-up.

Domenico Tedesco’s side then beat Romania 2-0 to ensure all sides sat on the same number of points heading into the final match.

Their result against Ukraine and the 1-1 draw between Slovakia and Romania therefore meant that they all finished with the same tally.

Belgium now face the huge task of beating France, who finished second in Group D but are still a favourite to win Euro 2024.

And De Bruyne has implored the Belgium fans to get behind the team as they prepare for a mammoth battle against the 2018 World Cup winners.

Victory over Les Bleus would mean they could face Portugal in the quarter-finals, and potentially Spain or Germany in the semi-finals.

“We need these fans. We’ll need them against France. That’s all I have to say,” De Bruyne said as quoted by ESPN.

Victory over Les Bleus means Belgium could face Portugal in the quarter-finals, and potentially Spain or Germany in the semi-finals.

They have advanced into what is arguably the tougher side of the draw and would have gone the opposite way if they topped Group E.

Belgium’s lack of success in the group stages could therefore prove to be their downfall, with the knockout stage kicking-off on Saturday.
