Monday Okpebholo, governor of Edo, on Friday swore in two commissioners, 20 permanent secretaries, including Melody Omosah, a visually impaired person. The governor also swore in members of the governing council of the Edo State College of Health Sciences and Technology. In a statement shared on his official Facebook page, Okpebholo described Omosah’s appointment as a historic milestone for the state, noting that he is Edo’s first visually impaired permanent secretary. “This occasion marks a historic milestone as Mr Melody Omosah becomes the first visually impaired Permanent Secretary in Edo State, a testament to our unwavering belief that ability, competence, and character—not disability—should define opportunity,” the statement reads. Okpebholo also announced the appointment of Martin Oli, a member of the Igbo community, as commissioner. According to him, the appointments reflected his administration’s commitment to inclusiveness. “These appointments reaffirm our commitment to building an inclusive government where merit, excellence, and equal opportunity take precedence over ethnicity, background, or personal connections,” he said. He said his administration would continue to create opportunities for qualified individuals regardless of their background. “A New Edo is one where everyone with the capacity to serve has a place at the table, and we will continue to open doors for all,” he said.
