NSCDC Impounds Truck With 45,000 Litres of Suspected Adulterated Fuel in Anambra
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Anambra State Command, has arrested a suspect, Sunday Ukeh, for allegedly transporting 45,000 litres of suspected adulterated Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in a truck.Ukeh, from Odume in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State, was intercepted on Sunday at Amansea along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway in Awka during an intelligence-led operation by the Command’s Anti-Vandalism Squad.According to a statement issued Monday by the Command’s Head of Media and Tactical Operations, Edwin Okadigbo, the suspect initially refused to stop when flagged down, attempting to drive through NSCDC personnel and nearly running them over. A chase ensued, and he was eventually apprehended at a military checkpoint in Amansea.Okadigbo said Ukeh also attempted to assault one of the officers before being subdued. Preliminary investigations revealed discrepancies in the waybill presented by the suspect. The truck and its contents have since been impounded for further investigation.“The Command categorically states that any person or group of persons who attack its personnel on lawful duty will face the full weight of the law,” the statement read.Commending the Anti-Vandalism Squad for its vigilance, the State Commandant reiterated the NSCDC’s commitment to combating illegal activities in the petroleum sector and warned against lawlessness.
