Court Strikes Out Department Of State Services’ Suit Seeking Further Detention Of Igboho’s Aides

Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has struck out a motion filed by the Department of State Services seeking further detention of four out of the 12 aides of embattled Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho.

The motion was thrown out by the Judge on Tuesday following its dramatic withdrawal by counsel to the DSS, Idowu Awo.

The secret police had through Awo filed a remand application, asking the court to nullify the bail earlier granted to the four detained associates of Igboho.

They are Amudat Babatunde, Abideen Shittu, Jamiu Oyetunji, and Bamidele Sunday.

At the resumption of the matter on Tuesday, the DSS lawyer stunned the court when he announced his decision not to go ahead with the matter.

Rather than going ahead with the motion, the counsel informed the court that he had filed a notice of appeal against the bail granted to the four out of the 12 detainees and that he would prefer to pursue the appeal at the Court of Appeal.

Justice Egwuatu subsequently struck out the motion following the no objection by the detainee’s lawyer, Sunday Adebayo.

On July 1, DSS operatives stormed the residence of Igboho at Soka, Ibadan around 1 am, killing two of his associates and arresting about 2 persons.

The Yoruba agitator, who escaped the raid, is currently facing trial in Benin Republic, where he was arrested on Monday.

DSS spokesman, Peter Afunanya, said Igboho may run and hide as long as he wants, “the end of his shenanigans” was certain.
